Gophers

Treatments for this pest are included in these services:

Gophers, also known as pocket gophers, are rodents that are notorious for storing food in their cheeks. While they appear harmless, gophers can be a serious issue to homeowners and farmers. Gophers are attracted mainly to loose soil, such as lawns and crop fields, and leave behind dirt mounds as they build their tunnels.

What do gophers look like?

While gophers are similar to other rodents such as a mole, there are a few indicators you can look for to identify a gopher. First of all, gophers are a bit larger than other rodents, and are about 6 to 12 inches long. Another significant feature of a gopher is its fur-lined cheek pouches, and incisor teeth to dig into the dirt.

What is the difference between a gopher and a mole?

Gophers and moles are similar in that they live underground, and leave behind dirt mounds from digging tunnels. However, moles are a bit smaller than gophers, and are about 4 to 8 inches long. Moles have much larger feet than gophers, which allow them to navigate through more coarse soil.

How to Deal With Gophers

If you notice large dirt mounds appearing in your yard, especially with fresh dirt plugging the hole, there is more than likely a gopher present. Gophers can cause quite a bit of damage to your landscape digging tunnels, eating plants and shrubs, and can even damage utility cables.
